Overview

This is how we grow at Wednesday, and what we expect of each other as we do.

Wednesday is the forward deployed engineering team that software companies bring in. Their product team builds the product. We put our people inside their customers' businesses to get it live and in use, and we bring what we learn back to the product team. What we do covers the companies we serve and how we work with them.

Two words come up on every page of this handbook. The client is the software company that hires us. The customer is the business we deploy the client's product into.

A forward deployed engineer gets the client's product working inside the customer's business. A forward deployed designer specialises in interfaces and workflows, and is equally willing to open the codebase and build the thing. Two crafts, one track, one ladder.

Forward deployment is the job. You sit inside the customer's business, form the problem with the people who have it, build the trust that gets them to open up, get the product working in their systems, take what you learn back to the client's product team, and grow the people around you. That is the work at every level. You start practising all of it from day one.
