Hiring Philosophy
This page is in two parts: what we believe about hiring, and the process that comes from it.
Our philosophy
We hire rarely, and we are hard to get into. That is deliberate. Wednesday is a small team, and every person changes what the team is. We would rather stay small and keep the bar high than grow and let it slip.
We only hire full-time employees. No contractors, no freelancers. The work depends on people who sit deep inside a client's business and own the outcome, and that is not something you hand to someone passing through.
We hire one kind of person: a forward deployed engineer, a problem solver first. A generalist with real range, deep in their craft and able to move across the whole problem. Someone who finds the real problem, builds the wedge, and gets AI to do most of the work. Someone with taste, who owns the outcome, and who makes the people around them better.
Above all, we hire for the ability to move the business metric the client hired us for. They give us a number their own roadmap has been stuck on. We want people who take it as theirs, push through whatever stands in the way, the legacy system, the data that does not line up, the stakeholder who is not yet convinced, and deliver the result. Not a plan to get there. The number actually moved.
How to apply
We take inbound applications only. Send your resume to work@wednesday.is, and with it, tell us why you think Wednesday is right for you. The intent matters as much as the resume. A resume on its own, with no reason behind it, does not get far. No recruiters, no screening calls in between.
The interview process
If we move forward, there are three interviews, and only three. Each runs ninety minutes to two hours, and each goes deep. None of them is a test you pass or fail. We want to see how you actually think and work, so the best thing you can do is talk straight. Here is what each one is for.
- Your past. We take real work you have done and go all the way into it. How it landed on you, the forks you hit and what you chose, what broke, how the result was measured, how you used AI, and how you have handled people, standards, and difficult stakeholders.
- Your present. We hand you one vague problem and watch you work. The signal is in how you find the real problem and pick the smallest slice worth building, then build a working version with AI in the room. Finding and framing the problem matters more to us than how fast you build.
- Your future. We talk about where you want to go, and we put you inside real scenarios of where Wednesday is heading, to see whether the fit is real on both sides.
That is the whole process. A resume and a reason, then three conversations. If you clear them, you are in a small group of people we chose carefully.
